Its Over... :-(

Ok, so I have had about 24 hours to minimize the pain and heartbreak of yesterdays game. Not only the outcome of the game...but the fact that our season is now officially over. After looking forward to Sunday for 4 months straight...its hard to have it come to an end no matter what the outcome. But after the depression subsides... I can look at the whole picture and see just how good of a season it was. Even though we didnt complete our run to Arizona (thats where the Superbowl is this year) we still made the playoffs and went to the second round. That means there were 26 other teams (and cities of fans) that were sitting at home yesterday watching the games. We were one of 8 teams left. Thats an accomplishment in itself. On top of that...we won our 4th divisional title in a row!!! That is awesome. Granted our division isnt in the strongest...but this is the NFL and 4 years in a row we have beat our division and played many other teams out of our division as well. And...the last 3 years...we have won 4 playoff games! Alot of teams havent been to the playoffs at all in a long time.

On top of that...Matt had one of his best years in his career. When our running game suffered...and Holmgren went to the pass first (if not always) attack...he basically put the whole responsibility on Matt...and he responded well. For those of you that dont fully look into the small things in the game...Matt basically calls all the plays. Holmgren sends in the plays...but Matt is given the authority (and responsibility) to change the call to whatever he sees fit by looking at the defense. And Matt only had all 4 of his receivers playing in the same game for 4 total games this year. DJ Hackett was injured in the first game and Deion Branch was out due to injuries for almost half the year. Nate Burellson played every game as well as did Bobby Engram. Bobby had the best season of his long career and actually set a Seahawks record for most receptions in a season. He won the "Steve Largent" award (which is given out for productivity on the field as well as actions off the field). Shaun didnt run well but that wasnt all h is fault. He was basically injured all year and most of the time...our offensive line didnt give him much room. On our Superbowl run in 2005 we had a left guard named Steve Hutchenson. He was offered the biggest contract ever for a left guard by Minnesota and this year Minnesota led the whole NFL in rushing. This is not a coincidence. The loss of Hutch has seriously effected our running game. If you remember...we didnt run the ball all that well last year. And Mack Strong...our Fullback of 14 years has blocked for Shaun for Shauns whole career and early in the season...Mack retired after a severe hit. That was probably the only sad thing about this year....the loss of Mack is huge. He was and is Mr. Seahawk.

So as this season closes...i am excited for next year...and happy with this season we had. Not to long ago the Hawks were the laughing stock of the NFL and now they are a model for what organizations strive to be. Mike Holmgren might not be back next year...but he is instilled a winning culture and we will continue to be a great team.

and yes...i change the blog and no longer have any seahawks logos...but thats not because i dont believe in them...but the season is over and time to focus on basketball :-)
